Downloading Audible audiobooks on a Mac is a quick and easy process. Generally, when you download from the Audible desktop site, your audiobook(s) should automatically be imported into iTunes without additional effort. If you are having problems finding your audiobooks in iTunes, however, there are several possible reasons:
- Your Audible audiobook may have downloaded to the computer itself, but was not imported into iTunes.
- The Books icon in the iTunes software may be hidden.
- The Audible file may not have downloaded in entirety or is corrupt.
Follow these steps to resolve the problem:
- Launch iTunes.
- Perform a manual import of the Audible file(s) you have downloaded.
- Click the Book icon in the top left corner of the iTunes screen.
You may need to click the ellipsis (…) menu in order to see the icon.
- Click My audiobooks.
In the latest version of iTunes, this is where your Audible audiobook will be stored. However, if you still do not see your audiobooks, continue on:
- Browse to the location on your computer where your downloaded files are saved. This location will vary based on your specific browser settings, and the browser that you opt to use:
- Safari: Click Safari menu > Preferences. Under the General tab, you can view Save downloaded files to.
- Firefox: Click Firefox menu > Options. Under the General tab, you can view Save files to.
- Chrome: Click Chrome menu > Downloads. In the tab that opens, click Open downloads folder.
- Locate and double-click the Audible file(s) you wish to import. By default, the Audible audiobook should open for playback in iTunes. If it begins to play, then you will know that it has been successfully imported. In the event that this does not happen, then the Audible file may be corrupt. Continue with these steps:
- From the download location, move the Audible file(s) to trash.
- Go to the Audible desktop site.
- Click Library > My Books.
- Reattempt the download.
